This is due to reduced oestrogen levels. The most important ways for us to protect ourselves from developing osteoporosis are by eating a healthy, balanced diet (osteoporosis has specifically been linked to nutritional deficiencies such as calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, zinc and copper); taking regular weight-bearing exercise; and maintaining a reasonable amount of body fat, as this is where oestrogen is stored following menopause.
